Sugarcane is an important Kharif Crop, which is produced in a large amount in the country and India stands at 2nd position among all countries in the world in sugarcane production.

Apart from being a leading sugarcane producer, India is also a leading sugarcane exporter and in the last financial year, the country exported more than 28 Lakh Tonnes of sugarcane.

10. Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand

10th position on this list is occupied by Uttarakhand, which is a leading sugarcane producing state in India with a production of 64.32 Lakh Tonnes.

The area under sugarcane cultivation is more than 1.2 Lakh Hectares and Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar are some of the major sugarcane producing districts in India.

9. Punjab

Punjab

Punjab, the Land of Five Rivers is next on this list with a production of 66 Lakh Tonnes. Punjab lead from the agriculture front in India and also a leading sugarcane producer in the country.

Sugarcane is grown in a large scale in Punjab and more than 90,000 hectares of land is under sugarcane cultivation. Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala, Sangrur and Ludhiana are some of the major sugarcane producing districts in Punjab.

Production: 66 Lakh Tonnes

8. Haryana

Haryana

Haryana with a production of 93.4 Lakh Tonnes is placed in 8th position in the list of top 10 sugarcane producing states in India.

The total area under sugarcane cultivation is more than 1.3 Lakh Hectares and Karnal, Faridabad, Rohtak, Sonepat and Gurgaon are some of the major sugarcane producing regions of the state.

Production: 93.4 Lakh Tonnes

7. Gujarat

Gujarat

Gujarat, one of the fastest developing state of the country is also a leading sugarcane producing state in India.

With a production of 95.3 Lakh Tonnes, Gujarat is the seventh largest sugarcane producing state in India and account for about 3% of total sugarcane production in the country.

Sugarcane is grown in a large area in Gujarat, which is more than 1.8 Lakh Hectares of land. Surat, Navsari, Bharauch, Valsad, Junagadh and Bhavnagar are some of the major sugarcane producing districts in Gujarat.

Production: 95.3 Lakh Tonnes

6. Bihar

Sugarcane is a major cash crop of Bihar and grown in more than 2.6 Lakh Hectares of land. Patna, Champaran, Darbhanga and Gaya are some of the major sugarcane producing districts in India.

Production: 122 Lakh Tonnes

5. Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh is an important sugarcane producing state and placed in 5th position in the list of top 10 largest sugarcane producing states in India. The presence of black soil and suitable climate make this state an ideal place for growing sugarcane.

Production: 149 Lakh Tonnes

4. Karnataka

Karnataka

Karnataka is the next state on this list with a production of 346 Lakh Tonnes. Karnataka contributes more than 10% in total sugarcane production of the country and the total area under sugarcane production is more than 4 Lakh Hectares of land.

Also, Karnataka has a good yield of sugarcane, which is more than 84 Tonnes per hectare. Belgaum, Chitradurga, Mysore and Shimoga are the major sugarcane producing districts of the state.

3. Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu

Although Tamil Nadu is the third largest sugarcane producing state in India but in terms of yield, Tamil Nadu stands on top with a yield of 107 Tonnes per hectare.

Sugarcane is grown in a large area in Tamil Nadu, which is more than 2.3 Lakh Hectares.

Production: 375 Lakh Tonnes

2. Maharashtra

With a production of 753 Lakh Tonnes, Maharashtra stands 2nd in the list of top 10 largest sugarcane producing states in India. The area under sugarcane cultivation in Maharashtra is more than 9 Lakh Hecatres.

Maharashtra has Black Lava Soil, which is ideal for growing sugarcane and contribute more than 22% in total sugarcane production in the country. Some of the major sugarcane producing areas in Maharashtra are Pune, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Solapur and Satara.

1. Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh is the leading state in agricultural products and also the largest sugarcane producer in India. With a production of 1,333 Lakh Tonnes, Uttar Pradesh accounts for 39% of total sugarcane production in the country.

Also, Uttar Pradesh has the largest area under sugarcane cultivation in India, which is more than 21 Lakh Hectares of land.

Some of the major sugarcane producing districts in Uttar Pradesh are Bareilly, Muzaffarnagar, Bulandshahr, Meerut and Saharanpur.

Production: 1,333 Lakh Tonnes
