Top 10 most Densely Populated States in India

India is the largest democratic country and the second most populated country in the world with population of more than 1.25 Billion. The population of India is growing at a fast rate and it is expected to reach the mark of 1.3 Billion by 2020. India is a populated country with a share of more than 17% of the total population of the world.

In India, the major part of the population live in rural areas, which is about 70% of the total population of the country. Every year about 1 Crore people migrate from rural areas to urban area for job opportunities and better standard of living. At present, there are more than 50 cities in the country with population of more than 10 Lakh.

Talking about the density of population then India is among the top 50 densely populated countries in the world with a density of 382 persons per square kilometre. In India, the most densely populated state is Bihar with population density of 1,102 persons per square kilometre whereas the least densely populates state is Arunachal Pradesh with population density of 17 persons per square kilometre. 10. Goa

Goa

The Party Capital of India, Goa has occupied 10th place in this list with population density of 394 persons per square kilometre. Goa is a perfect destination for spending holidays as it is rich in flora and fauna.

Goa has a large area under forest cover, which is more than 1,400 square kilometre.

With a GDP of more than Rs 48,000 Crore, Goa is among the richest states in India. Tourism is a major source of income for the state and more than 20 Lakh tourists visit Goa every year.

Assam

With population density of 397 persons per square kilometre, Assam is ranked 9th in the list of top 10 most densely populated states in India. Apart from being the ninth most densely populated state, Assam is also among the most populated state in India with a population of more than 3 Crore.

Assam comprises of 27 districts and out of them, Nagaon is the most populated district with a population of more than 28 Lakh. Assam is one of the richest biodiversity states in India with a large area under forest.

Kaziranga National Park, known for one-horned rhinoceros is present in Assam, which is also an UNESCO World Heritage Site. At present, there are more than 2,400 one-horned rhinoceros in Kaziranga National Park.

8. Jharkhand

Jharkhand

8th position of this list is occupied by Jharkhand, which has population density of 414 persons per sqaure kilometre. Among all cities in Jharkhand, Jamshedpur is the most populated city with population of more than 13 Lakh.

Steel Giant, Tata Steel is located in Jamshedpur, which is a centre of many minerals based industries like iron, coal, manganese, bauxite, iron and lime. Lafarge Cement, Tata Motors, TRF Limited and Praxair are some of the companies in Jamshedpur.

6. Tamil Nadu

4. Uttar Pradesh

Next state on this list is Uttar Pradesh, the fourth largest state in area that comprises of 75 districts. Among all districts, Kanpur is the most populated with population of more than 62 Lakh.

With a GDP of more than Rs 8 Lakh Crore, Uttar Pradesh has one of the largest economies in the country. Also, Uttar Pradesh is the leader among all state in terms of sugar production with 70% share in the total production of sugar in the country.

3. Kerala

Kerala

Kerala with population density of 859 persons per square kilometre is next on this list. Kerala is a swiftly developing state and has a strong economy with a GDP of more than 3.9 Lakh Crore.

Among all states in the country, Kerala is the leading producer of Black Pepper with more than 95% share of the total production of Black Pepper in the country. Also, Kerala is also the largest producer of white coir fibre with 60% share of the total production of white coir in the world.

Located on the bank of the holy river Ganga, Patna is a commercial and industrial centre of the state with the presence of numerous industries of different domains.
