With an area of 32 square kilometre, Lakshadweep is the smallest union territory in India area wise. Lakshadweep became part of India in the year 1956 and has a total of 37 islands and islets, of which 10 are inhabited islands and rest are uninhabited.

1. Andaman and Nicobar Islands
With an area of 8,249 square kilometre, Andaman and Nicobar Islands are the largest union territory in India. There are a total 572 islands in this union territory, of which 34 islands are inhabited.
Located at the juncture of Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea, Andaman and Nicobar Islands became part of India in the year 1950 and a union territory of India in 1956. The union territory is comprised of two island groups, which are Andaman and Nicobar.
Port Blair is the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which is located in the southern part of Andaman Island. This union territory is rich in flora and fauna and has more than 85% of the total land area under forest cover.
